Tecotec Group and Nelen & Schuurmans Partner to Combat Climate Change in Vietnam with Hydrodynamic Simulation.

The Impact of Climate Change is Alarming

According to statistics from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Vietnam is currently among the 5 countries most severely affected by extreme weather events. In the Red River Delta and the Mekong River Delta, it is predicted that a 1m rise in sea level will directly impact approximately 5.3% of the natural area, 10.8% of the population, 10.2% of GDP, 10.9% of urban areas, 7.2% of agricultural land, and 28.9% of low-lying areas.

Appropriate measures for response and adaptation in the region require interdisciplinary coordination, especially data sharing.
Data-driven decision making is essential for the successful implementation of the Mekong Delta Plan.

To achieve this, it is imperative to collect and analyze massive amounts of data to identify patterns and trends, thereby extracting information and knowledge as a basis for decision-making.

Through data analysis tools, “if-then” scenarios will be simulated and act as a bridge between the research knowledge of scientific units and policymakers.

Data-driven collaboration is a decisive factor in solving the difficult problems of climate change. Simulation tools will help experts in many fields such as: information analysts – knowledge of data and processes; data analysts and statisticians – knowledge of which methods can be applied; specialized experts – knowledge of solutions that can be applied in practice; policymakers – making appropriate decisions and policies.

Tecotec’s new solution is highly appreciated for its effectiveness and timeliness

On May 10th, Tecotec signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Nelen & Schuurmans (Netherlands) to transfer technology for storing, sharing and analyzing environmental data to enhance decision support.

Tecotec is known as a leading Vietnamese enterprise providing technology solutions and measuring, testing and calibration equipment.

Nelen & Schuurmans is a consulting and software solutions provider for water resources, with over 30 years of experience in flood control and water security.Tecotec

The solution includes real-time hydrodynamic simulation (3Di) on a large scale (the entire delta) and a large data warehouse serving the decision support analysis platform. Scientists and researchers involved in the fields of erosion research, flood risk assessment and management, biodiversity, water security management and companies can take advantage of the hydrodynamic simulation API to develop simulation solutions for flood forecasting and warning; water quality simulation and climate change models for the region, risk forecasting tools for insurance, irrigation planning for agriculture, etc.

The application of science, technology, and digitalization is expected to effectively help the Mekong Delta combat climate change.

The event was attended by Mr. Kees van Baar – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Vietnam. Representatives of Tecotec Group included Mr. Pham Ngoc Phuc – Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Bach Tuan Hien – General Director, along with many other leaders of the company.

On the Dutch partner’s side, Mr. Fons Nelen – founder and CEO of Nelen & Schuurmans, along with technology, consulting, and data experts from the Netherlands participated. In addition, the ceremony was also attended by representatives from agencies and organizations related to the field of natural disasters and the environment.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Ngoc Phuc said that due to the natural characteristics of its geographical location, the Netherlands has always been known as a country with very good water management capabilities. The application of science, technology and digitalization has helped the Netherlands create sustainable connections and effectively combat climate change.

When hydrodynamic models and large data warehouses are built, they will be an information technology solution for scientists and researchers related to flood risk modeling, hydrology and climate change in the Mekong Delta. Thereby contributing to increasing the feasibility of climate change response scenarios, helping to limit negative impacts on the daily lives of people in this area.

A Powerful Partnership for a Sustainable Future

The partnership between Tecotec Group and Nelen & Schuurmans brings together decades of experience in technology solutions and water management. Nelen & Schuurmans’ 3Di hydrodynamic simulation software, combined with Tecotec’s local expertise and market knowledge, will provide a powerful platform for addressing the complex challenges of climate change in Vietnam.

“This collaboration is a significant step towards building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for Vietnam,” said Mr. Pham Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Tecotec Group. “By harnessing the power of data and advanced technology, we can empower decision-makers with the information they need to protect communities and safeguard the environment.
